We, Mélanie, Sabina, Prudence and Soraia were privileged to be given the opportunity to carry out work experience at Axa, for three days, which is an insurance company that aims to help their customers as efficiently as possible. Axa is an insurance company, which handles vehicle insurance, home, travel, health, family but also life insurance and savings. On the first day, we were greeted by a lovely member of staff called Katrina Brown who works in Human Resources.

She showed us the building. It was beautiful: there were several rooms to relax, with a billiard table, rooms for drinking and eating. Inside, it's like Axa in France: it’s huge. The next step was to show us the various departments, but also to present to us some service staff and explain us what they do.

Then she gave us headphones and left us at the Axa call claims department.

We listened to calls from people all over the world. The first call will remain marked in our mind because it brought back memories of our city and our families, who we had been missing. A man called: the man’s wife's handbag had been stolen in Paris.

Then we met a woman and a man at the reception, they were adorable and lovely. Although we had difficulty to understand them, they did not leave us out of the conversation. We help at the desk, by sign people in and out and ensuring that their passes were tracked correctly.

The next day, we had the opportunity to see a presentation of Axa for the new workers. In the afternoon, Katrina took us to the I.T department. These people are responsible for all technical problems and the breakdown of servers.

What we liked most, was calls listening, because we could understand how it is on the other side of the phone when sometimes we talk to some customer service when we have a problem.

We will forever keep wonderful memories of this experience. They were always there to answer our questions and even inform us of more innovative projects that they had. People we met were really warm and smiling. There was a good atmosphere in this company, everyone was welcoming, nice and lovely, ready to answer all our questions and teach us new things about their jobs. We can see that they really appreciate their job.

Sabina: This trip to England allowed me to have a better experience of the work, to leave the high school with minimal experience. It also helped me to think more about my future. I always wanted to continue my studies in London, but I would continue in Paris even if I still do not know exactly which field, but I think come back to London to work for a while or even consider moving there later.

Mélanie: This trip to London has influenced my future and even a conversation with my English teacher has made me question a few things. I'm not sure yet but I think I will continue my studies in a humanitarian route. I would like to travel to help people all over the world because the first thing I learnt about this project is that: I must choose a profession that will never give the impression of working.

Katrina and the Axa team were always there for us, they would always ask if we needed something. The work experience at Axa in France and the UK has both definitely highlighted for us the importance of punctuality, reliability and commitment. These are the skills we will forever keep and transfer to our future educational and job opportunities. That’s why we would like to thank both teams for this opportunity gaining more insight to the world of work.
