DOCUMENTARY

ISG, Tuesday, November 18th to Thursday, November 20th

We woke up and had our breakfast, some students by themselves or with other people because our schedules were different, as we were going on a variety of work placements.

I was with Jeremy and our partner at ISG. ISG is an international construction services company delivering fit out, construction, engineering services and a range of specialist solutions. The opportunity to work at ISG was incredible and is one I will cherish forever. The first day we were with Mr. Joe Nightingale , he explained ISG to us, ISG work in different specialties (Data Centers, Education, Health , Technology etc.), he described his role at ISG, Mr Nightingale was in the office and we had talks from four different people about what it's like working for ISG, they were the Marketing Director, the 3D video maker, and Paul a Senior Manager and Joe said we were lucky to meet him because he works a lot so it's difficult to see him. All of the people were nice and we shared a good time. It was really great and I was inspired by everyone I met. They were so approachable and welcoming.  I learnt about

the different jobs within the company and had the chance to visit some of the sites; for example on the Wednesday we visited the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew with Peter. It was announced the appointment of ISG to carry out a £24 million restoration of the Temperate House at Kew Gardens, as the building phase of a wider £36 million project. We saw the lead person at this site who was also called Joe.

On the last day we went to Victoria with Mr Nightingale to visit another site for the homeless. It is a beautiful project and it will finish at the end of 2015. After this visit to the homeless charity, we left Mr. Nightingale and ISG company , we were sad because we loved our work placement and meeting the people who work at ISG were so nice and welcoming and they us the inspiration to work in their company.

Jeremy and I are nostalgic and would like to come back to London with great pleasure. My three days at ISG gave me an idea of the “world of work”. The time with Mr. Nightingale was very good and we were like a children with a new toy, we were happy, enthralled, enthusiastic, passionate and grateful. We will never forget our work placement and our partners and the people working at ISG.

I would like to talk about my work experience.

I worked 3 days with my English partner Hannah who is a great girl and also with Safia from my class.

We worked in a big company called ISG. This company builds and works on beautiful building projects. ISG is growing, it is a big company which is expanding around the world. They are in Germany, France and Brazil too.

The first day, Mr Nightingale was in the office and we had like four talks from different people about what it's like to work for ISG: they were the Marketing Director, the 3D Video Maker, and Paul, a senior Manager. Joe told us that it was a privilege to meet him because he works a lot so it's difficult to see him. All of those people were nice and we shared some good time.

The second day we went to Kew Gardens with Peter, a man that we met the day before. It was a construction site and we had a brief tour and presentation about it. We saw the main person at this site it was another Joe. After that we went to lunch and we talked about our hobbies, school, work, sport and things that create a bond.

The last day, we went to Victoria and had a tour around a building they were fitting out for a homeless charity and the process to achieve this.

We were very sad the last day when we had to leave the company and Joe because it was a very good experience and I really appreciated this. This work experience gave me another perspective on work. I was thinking that it going to be boring and that we would always be on site but the offices of ISG were incredible. ISG shows me the world of work and I really look forward to doing this kind of work. The working environment was great in the office and on the site. The talks with Hannah and Sudi the English partner of Safia were interesting and I really enjoyed it. After the work we exchanged our numbers and contacts on social networks (Twitter, Facebook etc.).

The people were nice and the company was beautiful. I will do my best to see them again.
